About Our Charity

The Arrow Bone Marrow Transplant Foundation is a small charitable foundation that raises money for leukaemia research and provides support to people undergoing leukaemia treatment.


My Message

"Sean Smith (aka Fat Paddler) is a survivor. Two major vehicle accidents (and 20 years of rugby!) have left the Fat Paddler with an impressive list of reasons not to participate in an active lifestyle. Reasons include multiple fractures (fingers, toes, hand, leg, ribs, pelvis, hip, lower spine and various facial fractures) and a raft of soft tissue and organ damage.

Working towards a challenge is what brings recovery. With my first accident it was a return to rugby. This time around, I wanted to work towards something spectacular. And a 111km paddle at night seemed to fit the bill!

On 7th March 2009 I picked up a paddle for the first time in many years, and started with the first step on the challenge. A paddle that largely involved swimming after falling out several times! But since that day, I've picked up the paddle every weekend and put more and more kms behind me, slowly waking up injured or unused muscles and chipping away at my fitness levels.

But training in winter is hard. Getting up in the dark and pushing off into dark waters in the wind and rain is taxing. So I need YOUR support to keep me going!

Support me by making a donation for the Arrow Bone Marrow foundation, a fantastic foundation doing research into cures, treatment and support for leukaemia sufferers. At the same time show your support for me and my personal challenge.... 111km of paddling glory!
